Best Paper Award | NIME2020

Lauren Hayes and her co-author Adnan Marquez-Borbon, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) have been awarded the Best Paper of the International Conference on New Instruments for Musical Expression (NIME) 2020 which takes place this week, hosted by Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK. The paper addresses how prevailing narratives emerge within interdisciplinary research fields through the dominance of disciplinary methodologies, uncritical citation practices, competitive environments rather than collaborative ones, and through an almost unwavering commitment to the production of technical objects. The authors consider not only the erasures but also the limitations that have been facilitated through such processes. The full paper is available here.
